When your children were smaller, a good playlist of nursery rhymes and lullabies and an occasional trip to the park or soft gym playground were enough to entertain the little ones. But things are always changing once they start to walk, talk and explore the surroundings on their own. Sometimes the playtime routine at home won’t complete all aspects of their development.
Luckily, there are ways to have fun while your kids learn with this spontaneous mini field trips.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could also take them out for a field trip once in a while?Elle Anorma
See some farm animals in a family-friendly farm
Just before my toddler’s playschool ended in March, her school organised a nice field trip to a cow farm. The children had a chance to feed the cows and bottle-feed the cubs. They were absolutely amazed during the feeding time! And if your children are willing to take the experience up a notch, they could also try milking cows while a friendly caretaker supervises the simple farm activity.
Let the science exploration come alive
If your child enjoys science-themed shows, a trip to the science museum will be a sure win. From dinosaur bones, glowing planets and other interactive play, your children will have endless things to explore. And because science and play blend seamlessly with the experience in a museum, learning becomes effortless for the little ones.
Meet the animals in the zoo
Most children are fond of animals. Thanks to the storybooks they have at home and the shows they watch on tv and online. Wouldn’t be better if they could see the animals they adore in a nature-inspired environment? The zoo is the perfect place for that because it gives them a deeper understanding of the living creatures around them.
Turn a regular trip to a store into an educational visit
One of my parenting techniques every time I go out with my toddler is to tell stories about the place that we are going to. Most of the time I am the personal tour guide to a curious toddler. It helped her become familiar with her surroundings, the purpose of things and how it works. So, far she’s had mini field trips to a dental and health clinic, a pizza restaurant, a supermarket and a car store. What’s even great is that these store visits are free!
Learn about the local culture in the city museum
To be a millennial mom to a generation who watches cartoons on streaming sites and read stories with Augmented Reality feature, it has become a struggle to introduce our home country’s culture and traditions. But our recent trip to a local city museum paved the way to introduce the local culture to my toddler.
Say hi to the marine life
Combine your kids’ love of the sea and animals with a visit to the nearest oceanarium. A lot of these marine parks provide not just access to sea life but to other fun and educational attractions and explorations too like bird shows and barn animals.
