Whether you are a stay-at-home or a working parenting, there will come a time that you will be needing a second home to help you in preparing your kids in the world ahead. By choosing the right preschool with great teachers, you’ll know your kids are well taken cared for.
But how do you choose the best preschool for your child?
Start with the preschool’s ambiance
A preschool that has an airy, bright and welcoming vibe is always conducive for your child’s learning. As a parent myself, I gravitate towards those schools that have windows in it to let lots of natural light come in at any time of the day. It has always been a cute ice breaker whenever the teacher asks: “How’s the weather?”.
Looking at my daughter’s current and previous preschools, they share a striking resemblance: white rooms with windows and colourful decorations in them.
Professional and friendly environment
As soon as you set foot in a preschool, the staff from the front desk would be there to greet you and offer a quick tour of the school. But what if you had to approach the team several times to get the necessary info? It could give the impression that the place is a bit overwhelming or worse; the person in charge to greet walk-ins isn’t ready for you. When I had that experience, I gave the school another chance by getting hold of one of the teachers. It turned out that she was gracious enough to show me the whole school. However, at that point, I was more worried about how the front desk handles walk-in customers. Preschools could get busy, and if you can’t catch her attention quick enough, what would?
Facilities are clean and safe for the children
Are you guilty of getting too excited to see your kid going to school with the rest of the classmates that you forget to notice the school’s facilities and materials for learning? You’re not alone. But what’s sad is it’s just too late to back down from a poorly kept preschool when you have already paid the reservation fee. Don’t be impulsive in signing up your kid and take in consideration to look at the facilities carefully. Make sure that you have a complete understanding of the school’s way of teaching your kid. Check the toys and see if it has enough variation that will help the development of your kids through play.
The teachers are great around the kids but could also be firm
Kids will be kids, and there’s no stopping them from exploring their surroundings and testing patience. We could only imagine how challenging it is for a teacher to remain in a cheery mood while keeping the little ones safe and happy in school. The good thing is that you’ll know you are in the right preschool when the teachers could remain calm and fun under pressure while looking after a handful of children. Take a three-day trial class to get an idea of how the teachers cultivate a fun and safe environment for the children. You will also see how your kid copes with new people.
Learn as much as you can about the school’s preschool program
A great school has a system in place for things like school activities or field trips, child pick up and drop schedule, child development report, class routine, and so on. Learn more about the school’s preschool program and compare them with other schools because it’s a way for you to ready your schedule for an upcoming school program and set a budget for extra expenses like field trips and special school programs.
Other things you must consider
Sometimes when the school is a good fit for your kid and meets your standards, you will find a way to afford the enrolment fees or maybe drive a little bit longer rather than settling on a school that doesn’t meet the basic standards. Just make sure that there’s a good payment scheme in place to plan your budget and your kid’s class schedule is during on the off-peak hours to lessen your chances on spending too much time in traffic.
